Sunday afternoon drive..

I never get tired of taking pictures of the mountain and the fall leaves. We got out and walked in the forest and saw this sign. I think it used to be where sheepherders put out salt when they had sheep on the national forest. The reason for the closeup...which you can't read...is signatures of folks from the nearest town. One of the dates we read was 1949. we recognised quite a few of the names, and couldn't read quite a few!

Some must have used it for target practice, also.

Rocky Mountain high...

They are walking over to see Chris coming with his elk. If you click on the picture, you will see lots of reddish trees. They have died from the pine beetle epidemic. The trees in this area are really bad.

Hazen enjoying "riding" dad's horse.

Afternoon drive...

I always enjoy seeing the white aspen trunks and the yellow leaves.

We are supposed to have snow tonight. It snowed a little on us on the drive this afternoon.

This is a little of the elk bugling. I didn't know when to start the camera, as I couldn't predict the start of the bugle...and the zoom is not good, but there are elk in the picture! We can hear them after a fashion. We stayed behind the fence so we didn't spook them. We didn't make any noise ourselves...just listened.
A storm was coming in and the aspen leaves were piling up in gold piles, and drifting in the air. It was so pretty, and just what a fall evening "should" be like!

They are out of here!

The past 4 mornings we have had 12 semis lined up on the county road when we got up. They started arriving the evening before and spent the night there. They hauled their load to Nebraska and Colorado and were back as soon as they could get back. Each day saw 750 yearling heifers loaded up and heading out. Breakfast was at 5:30 am. Kate had some people and I had some. We took turns cooking lunch. All went smoothly, they had them weighed by 7:30, and the trucks started pulling into the yard one by one. The yard holds 3 at a time....one loading, and 2 waiting. All the horse trailers had to park down the other road and along the sides so the semi trucks could have room to turn around and back into the chute.
The weather was SO BEAUTIFUL!! It was nice to eat outside part of the days. Several days they had to water the corral so it wasn't dusty...mother nature helped out halfway through and watered us down one evening so that saved a lot of time and work.

A special day!!

Scott and Renee welcomed Chase Preston this morning. This was big brother Chet 3 years ago, when he was about the same age. I thought it would be fun to see if they look alike as babies.

Row, row, row your boat....

Fishing buddies.
Chris invited us to float the Platte River with them this aftrnoon. This is the beginning. We got in at 2 pm and got out at 7 pm. The day was beautiful and mild. Grandpa and Fischer had a little time to visit while Chris and I took the boat trailer to the take out point.

Click on this one and see the barn swallow nests on the cliffs. The sun was so bright, I couldn't get them centered...or even see what I was getting in the picture.

A bluff around the bend in the river.

The end.

Things we have been looking at....

Clayton and a "crabby" friend.
I always have to take a sunset picture. This is right behind the house where we were staying. Great Grandpa and his fish.

Castles in the sand.

Another fisherman on the Columbia River.

Catching up on homework.

Clayton goes to the ocean....

This is the place we are staying. If you turn around and face the other way...there is the Pacific Ocean. A happy boy.

A very BUSY place...all day long. Boats loading and unloading.

Posing for Grandma.
