Chris and Kate in Alaska Aug 18-26

Chris and his black bear. That's a blueberry patch they are in. It was feasting on blueberries. It was a real delicacy to the natives there.
Fishing was good too.
 The view from their cabin.

August 21 total solar eclipse

There has been so much hype about 350,000 visitors coming to Wyoming to see the total eclipse. This is the interstate in Cheyenne.  I'm hearing of a 10 mile back up at Glendo Wyo where cars are trying to exit. Campgrounds are full. I ordered eclipse glasses from Amazon, then got an email saying they might not be safe, don't use them.

The kids and I are making solar eclipse pinhole viewers. The sun shines in the pinhole from behind you.
The pinhole is in the tinfoil.
The kids went home and got the eclipse glasses that the school passed out.
Jerms family rode the team up Snowbasin and watched the eclipse.

August 18

We took a Ranger ride to look for crawdads in the ditches that George turned off this week.
3 days until summer is over. Enjoying  time with the grandkids.
Looking at the minnows and crawdads.
Many crawdads!
Chris, Kate, and Lizzy flew to Anchorage Aug 18.  The next day flew 100 miles to Clark Lake. Then Chris flew 100 more miles to his brown bear hunting area.

August 14

Summer is pretty much over. We had brandings this week. 2 way out along the North Platte River only reachable by Ranger or horseback. Jeff and his girls and a fellow from Austrslia came over to help and pick up Claytons horses. A bunch of neighboring cowboys came too. No big meal, so Geo hauled out sandwich makings with the branding supplies.
George tending the branding stove.
One of Jeff's men got hurt in a local rodeo , a brain stem injury, so Jeff had to do his job while the flight for life took Clay to Casper.  A bucking Bronx t boned Clays horse, tipped it over, and he fell on his head.
Clayton has been helping Chris and staying with us all summer. We are missing him since he went home yesterday.

Aug 2

Fischer and 20 lb salmon in Columbia River.
Heading out. Columbia River.
Success!
A cooler full!
Clayton got another big one.
Dusty got his early the second day. Aug 3.
Hazen didn't give up and got his after lunch the second day. A sea lion swam up alongside the boat and swam away with it in his mouth. They chased the fish/sea lion in the boat and he dropped it.
