A long day....

We waved goodbye to Rory in the window as we pulled out away from their Ft C house....sad to think that is the last time we will do that at this house! KC seems VERY far away.
George's Grandma's funeral was today in the town where she lived most of her life. She would have been 101 years old next month. JD came down and spent the night with us at Amy's house. R is missing his dad, so enjoyed hanging out with Uncle JD. They caught a few winks on the way home....must have been Grpa G's smooth driving!!

Same place, Same time, Different scene!

This is taken from the same spot as the last post....out my patio door towards the creek. The wind and blowing snow have erased the mountains in the background. The winds are gusting up to 70 mph today. It just roars around the house. Interstate 80 is closed off and on, on the summit, because of wrecks, limited visibility, and things blown over on their side. For once, I am glad to sit in the house and look out the window.

Saturday morning with Grpa G

Rory waited all morning for Grpa to come back from feeding. Then they took a little ride in the tractor....which wasn't long enough!

A visit to the south (of us, that is)

Amy's town is still buried in snow. The 2-3 feet they got a month and a half ago is still piled up in the yards and along the streets. Many of the residential streets are still one lane traffic. Payloaders and dump trucks were busy in her subdivision hauling it away.
Grandpa and the boys reading a before breakfast story. Baby J is doing lots of smiling and communicating now. Big brother R kept us laughing with his talking and antics.

This is what wind does with snow!!??

After plowing all afternoon...getting ready for Sunday morning feeding and hoping it won't drift in.
Gary's house in the main ranchyard. Note the drift higher than his truck.

Clearing the road to the haystack.
Before...this drifted in between morning feeding and lunch. (I hit the wrong key and the picture got out of sequence....it is supposed to come before "after"!) The fence around this stack is "elk fence" twice as high as regular fence to keep elk from eating all the cow's hay.
George could see a semi blown over on its side on the interstate this morning. The wind is howling all over this area from Wyoming to Nebraska...we did warm up from subzero to 13 above, though.

We are making history!

George read that this is the 2nd coldest January since 1915 when they started keeping records in this area. The average temp has been 9 degrees. They expect -20 degree temps tonight with wind and snow making it -30 to -40 degree windchills....brrrrr!
