A Hot Project October 2014

The Game and Fish Dept got a grant to improve deer habitat.  One of their projects was to burn sagebrush on Sheep Mtn to increase the grass.  Because of the wet fall, they were not able to burn, but I got some pictures of the effort.  This day and a half cost $17000 of the total.  George and Chris could do it for the price of fuel. There were many fire trucks, and I don't know how many men.  When you are doing a government project, there is the project planner,  the fire igniters, the firemen and fire trucks to stop the fire if it gets out of their planned lines, it gets way too many people out there.
The first burn area off Rattlesnake Road.  Note several trucks along the edge.

Eating lunch and chatting waiting for the humidity to go down.

There were so many "firebuilders" sitting in the sage waiting.  I was surprised when they stood up how many were there.

The G & F sent their photographer to document the day.

George has used this contraption for years to burn sage brush and whatever.  It is like a fire breathing dragon...it really goes to town.  It was the only device they could get to burn anything!

A closer look.

Hunting season

Some beautiful hunting days, and happy hunters.
The first group from South Carolina.

Happy Birthday trip west

R was having a birthday, Grandpa G ran out of supplies for his digging project, so we loaded our suitcases, 3 of the local grandchildren, and headed west.  It was fun to surprise R and J!

The trampoline helped work off some energy.
Happy Birthday Rory.

R and J got walkie talkies for their birthdays, so that was big entertainment.

Some new books for the birthday.

Dusty playing with "new to him" toys and talking on the walkie talkie.  Everyone was so good and had soooo much fun!

Late September, early october picnics

The view of Elk Mtn and the Double Eight Ranch was great.
The evening was so beautiful.  The setting sun highlighting the trees.
George and I slipped over to Elk Mtn in the evening to cook a steak and listen to the elk bugle.
On the way over we saw a bunch of elk off Rattlesnake road.
Can you see the elk coming out on the meadow?

George was trying to hold the camera in front of the spotting scope to get a good picture, but it didn't work like we wanted it to.
This moose was one of several along the side of the road, checking us out.
We bugled to this elk he threw his head up and watched us.
We took hunters a week later, saw an elk, heard some bugling.  The leaves are falling off the trees.

The light coming through the trees as the sun sets sure is special.

Hamburgers always taste so good in the great outdoors!

Shipping days Sept 15 - 19

Lots of cooking going on when we ship cattle for 5 days.  Lucky for me I have good help!!  Dusty licks the beaters.

Everyone wanted to help "hands on"  with the cinnamon rolls.

Dusty didn't want to get his shirt messy with flour.

Lots of neighbors came to help.

The weather was perfect, not too cold, not too hot.

We had some foggy mornings the week before we shipped.
Miller place....picturesque.

The flowers in front of the house are always really pretty about the time it starts freezing at night.

The following movie was from this summer moving cattle from the Kamp to the Miller pasture.

Fischer and Hazen got to ride the last day. They were pretty excited.

Gravel Travel

The cousins are at just the right age to have tons of fun together whatever they may be doing.

J and A took the 4 wheeler

We had 3 vehicles heading to the mountains.

Over the river and through the woods.

Hiking over to a fishing pond.  They caught some brookies.

Back side of Medicine Bow Peak.

A man and his dog.

Moose crossing the road on the Snowy range right in front of the car. He didn't seem to bothered by all the people.
