Walking on the snow

Notice Maddie's frosty beard....click once!

After meeting activities

These girls had a major diaper changing session here before they took out after mtg. The one you might not recognise is Sam from Denver. Stacy and Tom are his parents.

Snowy evenings can be pretty...

George caught this shot of the mountain just as the sun was setting....one of the perks of living in Wyoming!

How a chunk of marble becomes a buffalo

I thought someone might be interested in looking at the website of one of our friends that is a sculptor....the video is of him carving a buffalo out of tons of marble...removing everything that is NOT like a buffalo to reveal the image of a buffalo! http://themarblesculptor.com We can all get a good spiritual lesson out of this too.

Riding with Grpa G

We took a little drive yesterday afternoon. Our grand-dog Maddie came along. We saw hundreds of antelope. The deep snow has kept them from migrating to where they usually go in the winter. There is snow there too. Then we stopped to chat with a guy looking at the rocky cliffs along the road on our ranch. He said he had seen a mother mountain lion and 3 kittens on those rocks last night and brought his girls out to see them again....they were busy elsewhere....probably grocery shopping in the antelope aisle! Oh yes, we got 4"- 6" of new snow Sunday morning...it has pretty much blown out and around now.

Shipless shipping

This post is for all you warm weather blog readers out there who might not know what "shipping" cattle is. No boats are involved, and only frozen water this time of year. The semi trucks chained up their wheels at the county road so they wouldn't slip off the side of the road when they are loaded heavy with cattle. About 50,000 lbs per truck is what they haul legally....maybe a few less than 50 full grown cows are on board. They haul the cattle to the sale barn, where they are auctioned off to the highest bidder and go to their new home. Many of those that we sent this trip were going to calve later than we would like. We need to have calves all born within a 60 day period so they are a uniform size when selling them next fall. We also have to move on to the next project in May, which is irrigating hay lands, then putting up the hay, so don't want to be watching cows at that time. They go to the mountain pastures while we are busy doing that.
Hmmmm, I am already thinking about springtime, I wonder why??

The temp is OFL!

This a picture of what my digital thermometer thinks of the weather when it gets below -20....it was at least -30 this morning. I suppose OFL is a digital code, but for us here, it just means awfully COLD!!!

The tractors did start this morning....reluctantly. The ice on the water holes and stock tanks will be extra thick.
