Finally some hunting pictures! Do not read if you don't like hunting pictures!

The chief's wife in Ft Yukon, AK.  George stayed at her bed and breakfast.  No picture of the room, but very basic like an old time bunkhouse....$70 per person.  She is showing the chiefs jacket he wears at state dinners.

Had to fly 200 miles north from Fairbanks to Ft Yukon, then 300 more to the camp area.

Freeze dried food, bulk packed.  You put 2 cups of boiling water in a ziplock and wait 5 minutes before eating.

Plane taking off in the background.
George's hunting partner, Dave.

They walk over to those mountains, and climb them to find sheep...carrying 60 lb packs on their backs with food, tents, and sleeping bags.

Sore feet, duct tape any sore spot to prevent blisters.

Contemplating tomorrows path.
too small to be a legal ram....they saw lots of these.

These sheep hung around camp, see the tent tip and sheep on the hillside.

Scree, the whole country is just broken rocks that you slip and slide and cut your boots and feet on.

Arctic char coming up Kongakut River to spawn.  10 fish in the first 10 casts.

Snowy morning.

Arctic char and dall sheep...delicious!
Dall Sheep

The way out...had to set down on a riverbed for fog for and hour or so.

Fall came here in mid August.

Sorry no pictures

Blogspot is not letting me post pictures, so will hold off til it does.  It has been 28 for a couple of mornings now, so it should be getting all gold and yellow soon!  George has been back for a week now.  He had a great trip and got a nice ram.  No pictures for now.

He got his sheep...

I got the prearranged signal last night late....3 SPOT  "I'mOK" messages from the same location, 20 minutes apart.....that George got his Dall Sheep.  I don't know when I will hear from him in a phone call.  Depends on Satellite phone availability.

Gone hunting....

For those of you wanting an update about George's hunting trip to Alaska, he has no way to send pictures.  He uses his SPOT messenger system to send a latitude and longitude coordinate each morning and evening.  There is a stock message along with it that says "I'm OK".  He was able to call out on a satellite phone (very expensive, the guide has one for emergencies) and said that his hunting partner had gotten a sheep.  George's guide was heading back to Fairbanks, so George was going out with the other guide yesterday.  He has seen lots of sheep, just didn't want to settle for an average one, then see the BIG one later.  The small plane is coming for them on Thursday, so I am sure he will get down to business soon.  They are carrying everything they need on their backs, sleeping out, it is snowing up high and raining.  He has lost quite a bit of weight...you don't over eat freeze dried food :), and they walk miles in rough terrain every day.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I took Jeff and Lisa's kids home from a trip they were on, visited them for a couple of days, saw my sister at her quilt shop, my parents at their farm, and now am home with plans to get a lot done before George comes home.  Will keep you posted.

Click the link below to see where He is located. This is what I get each day.

We had such a fun time this summer with lots of grandkid visits.  Fischer, Hazen, and Dusty love living close to Grandpa and Grandma as they get to enjoy all the cousins too!  Mid August Rory and Jace came to stay a few days...in fact, Rory thought we had so many empty bedrooms, that they might as well just move in with us!!
Mike and Diane had lots of sweet corn, so they shared with us..lots to eat fresh and freeze for this winter.
