More August

Hazen had a surprise birthday cake from Great Aunt Kathy...she really IS a great aunt!

Lighting caused several grass/forest fires around the area.  The wind made them flare up for several days.

All in a days work....

                                                                  Killing  rattlesnakes
Dusty checking out the gate and looking for dad.

How does this gate work, mom??
We were a half mile away, so had to zoom in with the camera...Then we could tell they were killing a rattlesnake.
Chris carrying the snake to show us...Jerm leading Chris's horse so it would not get upset.
That is a BIG one!
Jerm stepping on the rattlesnake's head, while Chris  removes the rattles.

4 little men taking it all in.  I say again...I love the dramatic clouds!

Picture time

Rory showing his rattlesnake rattle.

Jace trying to "rattle" Hazen...who is calmly sucking his thumb!

Going for a little ride before they trailer the horses and take them home.
Fischer said, "Mom, I don't feel very safe with you pulling on that halter"  (I think he meant her leading the horse.)  It IS a little scarey being so high off the ground, on such a big animal!

Jeremy, Rory, and Jace.

Helping Grandma...

Jace and Hazen picked tomatoes in Grandma's little greenhouse.

We even made it to the house with quite a few!  Note the pleased looks!

Early Morning at the Green Bridge

Today we moved cattle at Encampment over the Green Bridge.  The sunlight was pretty on the trees.

Looking off the bridge at the river.
Chris is in front of the cattle so they will turn into the right pasture.
Checking for a couple of foot rots...an infection in the hoof.  One antibiotic shot usually cures it.

Journal entry Aug 30, 2011

We said goodbye today to a good friend who was killed in a horse accident at the 43 Ranch at Lusk, WY.

We are reminded again of the brevity of life, and not to take it for granted....we are just here for a little while.
