End of October

Jeff's family visited Grandpa Pres.  he said he didn't know who they were, but started asking about the 43 ranch.

We tried to visit Pres Halloween night.  he was busy handing out candy.
there must have been several hundred kids there.

If George stood right in front of him, he would talk a minute.

We headed on to Omaha to deliver the elk meat .  We went to Nebraska furniture warehouse and bought some living room furniture.

Ever wonder why it is so hard to sneak up on an antelope?  Their eyes seem to
stick out of the side of their head and they can see behind them.

The cabin at East Fork.  George and I decided to cook a hamburger to celebrate fall.

October

Dave Scott came moose hunting the first of October.
He bought a governors license for $29,000. This was at the Double Eight.

Rory shot his first bull elk.
The cousins got to go with him.  It was much fun for all.

Jeremy and  Rory boiled the skull and made a nice European mount for his elk.

Dave and Pam Haukeli were happy with the biggest deer he ever shot in his life.
Pam was glad she went with them that day.
Mark Stock came the second week in October. Another good one!
The greenhouse is a nice place to eat lunch when working cattle.  The food doesn't blow off your plate. It is warm and no one has to take off their dirty boots, they just wear their hats and coats.

Many cattle, so many days of cattle working.  Cinnamon rolls by the dozens!

We u-hauled living room  furniture out to the First Mates Cottage in Washington.  October 16

George kept busy fixing things that needed it.

Cleaning gutters.  Lots of pine needles collect each year.

We always get a thrill watching all the big ships on the Columbia going by.

Another addition to the basement entertainments.

October 26 heading home.  Loving the fog.  Such different weather from Wyoming!

September Garden

When I measured some of the vines growing on this trellis, they measured over 12 feet long.
I tried to prune off many of the outer branches.

We had tons of tomatoes all summer.  When the greenhouse started getting cold at nights, we picked all the tomatoes.
One picking was 50 lbs.

The grandkids helped me sort according to color.  We ate the last ones the 2nd week of November.

More September

snow Sept 19

Scott, Chet and Chase came Sept 21 to bow hunt for elk.  They had a successful hunt.  Chet was with his dad cheering him on!

Dove hunting provided jalapeno stuffed olives wrapped in dove breast on the grill.
The steaks were wonderful too, marinated in a special sauce by Scott.

Hurricane Irma

Last week a terrible hurricane Harvey came to Houston and flooded and tore stuff up. This week Irma came to the Carribean and the whole state of Florida. Our neighbors put up our hurricane shutters. We lucked out and got no damage and the power stayed on. 7,000,000 were out of power. It is hot....no gas or groceries, no electricity. Key West was decimated.

We were at York NE while this was going on at convention. I love the tall corn all around the place.
George was resigning from his state water board. We toured the Arch in Kearney with Lorna while waiting.
Lizzie getting to ride dads horse.
Allison killed a snake with her lariat. She turned 15 on Sept 13th.

End of Summer Visit

Riding anywhere in the side-by-side is an adventure with Grandpa G. Then someone gets to drive and that is SO FUN!  Driving time has to be equally divided!
Fishing at the lake is a tradition.
Huge mushroom along the Overland Trail ruts on the Miller Place. I'm so glad to drive that route in a Ranger instead of a covered wagon!
