Wild Iris time

Kate takes a picture every year in the wild iris patch with the kids. It would be fun to see them all lined up.

May 29

The university of Idaho, Wyoming Game and Fish are doing studies on curlews. We happen to have quite a few on the ranch. Dusty enjoyed being the only kid there, and got to hold the bird.
They put a tag on its leg, and a $3000 radio transmitter on its body to study migration, etc. We found they mate for life. The mother takes care of the babies until they hatch, then she leaves and the dad takes care of them until they leave the nest. The male and female winter in different places, then meet up at their summer place the next spring. They have found some interesting things with the radio trackers.

May 16

Today, the men sold the horns they had picked up.
The buyer pays cash. Nice hobby to have!
May 18 snowing. Roads starting to close this morning.
Tulips are tough.
This is yesterday!
George set up the heater in the greenhouse. It is supposed to be in the 20's tonight.
They got 16" of snow at Elk Mtn. The sidewalk is the only dry place for the dogs to nap.

Todd got this bear at the Double Eight. Don't know if the deep snow helped or not.

May 14

Update on sister Karen's quilt shop ...Dave got the tops on the cabinets. The carpet comes Monday. Then they move the fabric over from the original shop and carpet that. It will be a classroom and sewing machine showroom. In the right rear you can see the old bank vault doors. This was a historical bank building, and they have kept the original brick and some of the tiled floors.
New carpet May 14 in the new side.
Now moving all the fabric etc into the new side so the old side can get carpeted.
Tuesday night. The new side is looking good!

Walter Scott wanted to visit the ranches. They flew into Saratoga, toured the ranches. May 16 they flew on over to Cheyenne and had lunch with Pres. Probably the last time the 2 friends will see each other. Walter is 86, Pres 87.
The elk Mountain Williams fixed a wonderful picnic supper.
Pres watching Walter's plane taxi away.

First week of May

Picking up plants at Doggett greenhouse.
The men moved cattle on Rattlesnake road this week.
Visiting mom in Lusk. Her sprinkler system froze this winter, so she dug it up and found the split pipe. She knew Dave was tired and aching from all his projects today, so she quick dug it up before he got there to fix it!  She turned 84 years young May 3.
Mom came home with me May 7-10. So fun to have her visit. We met Karen in Laramie the 10th.
She had a nice time visiting with Chris's kids. She doesn't get to see the great grandkids very often. They were counting money here.
