The university of Idaho, Wyoming Game and Fish are doing studies on curlews. We happen to have quite a few on the ranch. Dusty enjoyed being the only kid there, and got to hold the bird.
They put a tag on its leg, and a $3000 radio transmitter on its body to study migration, etc. We found they mate for life. The mother takes care of the babies until they hatch, then she leaves and the dad takes care of them until they leave the nest. The male and female winter in different places, then meet up at their summer place the next spring. They have found some interesting things with the radio trackers.
