Moving the cattle out

These are some scenes from the 5 days of shipping out 4000 head of yearlings early due to drought conditions in the midwest.  Luckily, the man who owns them could get them into a feedlot in NEB.

We would see trucks starting to line up the night before.  Some want to be the first in line, to get going first.  The biggest day was 19 trucks, but they were not all in line at once.

Naptime after lunch.

Heading out early.

Clayton was a big help.  More than a lot of 12 year olds would be.  I guess he has more experience than a lot of grown ups.

Greenhouse update

This is a hodge podge of pictures as I am trying to load them off my phone and I am struggling with a learning curve with technology!  Things are growing well, and we are enjoying fresh vegetables.

Moving the HAYING CREW

Nice thing about this crew, they take care of all their meals themselves!

Notice the dust coming up in the distance.
The middle states in the USA are having the worst drought since 1956.  Many ranches are selling off their cattle because of dried up pasture, no hay, and no water to drink.  Farmers' crops are withering, so corn and wheat prices are going up very high.  We are shipping 4000 yearling heifers 2 months early this year.  Their owner will put them in a feed lot where they can get fed.  Get ready for beef prices to go up because of lower numbers of cattle.
Cows and more cows.

Summer Days at Grandma's

Another way to keep cool.
A cool drink on a hot day.
Up early to help turn cattle through a gate.

Playing with Grandma's phone helps pass the time.

A pretty flower button fell off a flip flop through the crack in the deck.

Grandpa taking the board up.

There it is!!
Everyone wanted to use the "gun" to fill the deviled eggs.

We explored an old dugout on the Kamp Ranch.  Can you imagine trying to live in such a small space all winter??

I had excellent help watering in the greenhouse.

The dolls were safely strapped in.
Trying the hot tub to see if it was too HOT!!
The girls came home with us the 4th of July.  Clayton had to help with the brandings at home.
