January 7-16 far out west!

I can't get used to flowers blooming in January!
A cool damp day calls for a fire in the fireplace.
Our special meeting company. So nice for 3 nights. Not enough homes on the peninsula, so we flew out to fill the gap!
George and Tom H heading down the trail to the beach. The waves were amazing. 21 crab boats in counting distance.
A crab boat going by the Ship Inn restaurant on the Columbia River.

Happy New Year!

Jeremy and Amy came to visit January 1st. The men couldn't find any elk close enough to get.
We came home from Elk Mtn over Rattlesnake Road. It was good on our end, pretty deep on the other end!
Pot luck at Willis and Kathy's. Jace said this was his favorite meal!  I think this was his second plate😀.
George and I flew to Portland January 7. We had to be de-iced in Denver. It was snowing hard when we flew out. Richie Winters and George are thinning out the trees behind the house, to preserve the beach view. His family is with him. Clam digging opened up Thursday, so George had fun taking everyone clamming, demonstrating how to cook and clean them.
Beautiful sunset on the water, lots of diggers.

Getting back to normal

Clayton got an elk the next day. The girls got some cousin time.
Reading with Larkin.
Making a bonnet for Lizzie's birthday party.
My beginner hand crank sewing machine. I made many doll dresses on it. I'm sure it is an antique by now!
Waiting at the Casper airport to meet Jeff and Lisa's flight.
Lots of hugging. 2 weeks is a long time.
Sharing some of the past weeks happenings. We spent the night in Casper as they had been traveling 24 hours. Little sleep, and a late arrival.

Time to go home

It was unseasonably warm, 86-90 degrees. The kids never got cold boogie boarding. We stayed til sunset a couple of times.
They got quite skilled at boarding.
Grandpa hired a guide that took them out to the ocean. They caught about 40 fish.
Allison enjoyed standing in the warm, pouring rain. Not like home at all!
Picture after meeting.
Another sunset at the beach.
Waiting to go home. Winter coats in a pile. We will need them.
Worn out from traveling. It is a miracle to start the morning in Florida at 72 degrees at 3 am. Then get home to below zero, minus 24 that afternoon.
Elk mountain. Cold and beautiful.

Kayaking

Meanwhile back home highways were still closed, or closed again.
George got a hitch put on the car so he could pull the kayaks.
 Larkin and Grandpa.
Clayton and Allison. They came upon a 4 foot alligator sunning on the bank.
Jeff went roo hunting in Australia.  They killed over 40. They are laying all along the roads. Carcasses, bones, and hundreds of live ones running everywhere. They are skinny because of drought and over population.  They are eating all the grass. All the vehicles, even the nice town cars have roo guards around the front.
We had a fun Christmas dinner.  The kids all helped, and we had a nice meal.

Disney

We left the house about 6 am to get to Magic Kingdom at opening.
These wild rides have a camera to record you when you drop down into the water. It is dark and no one else can see you. I decided to not get my glasses and hair wet. So the camera recorded my solution!
The castle in the background, and more people than I ever want to see again. Christmas vacation was the time we had.
Mickey Mouse was everywhere!
The shortest day of the year. We saw several rides in the dark. The castle was beautiful.
We spent the night in a motel, then tackled Epcot the next day. It was very crowded, and interesting. Our feet called it quits about 3 pm.

More December

Lizard in the lanai.

                                         Grandpa leading the lizard hunt.
It lost its tail. I wonder why?!
The girls took this cool picture.
Power plant pond where there are manatees in the warm water. Too warm, saw only this one today.
                                                                              To the beach.
Lacey flew out for 5 days.
Looking for shark teeth on Englewood beach.
Cool shell.
On the water taxi to Rum Bay restaurant. About a 15 minute ride over.
